Neil Costa

On being awarded a Gibraltar Scholarship, Neil went on to study Law & Spanish at the University of Wales, Cardiff obtaining a 2:1 with Honours. Neil then attended the Inns of Court School of Law in London where he became a member of Lincoln's Inn, completed the Bar Vocational Course and was called to the Bar in November 2002. Neil was called to the Gibraltar Bar in January 2003.

Neil comes to Verralls having trained and gained 5 years of intensive experience in Gibraltar's largest law firm in financial services, tax and litigation. With more than 6 years of practice, Neil is already an experienced general practitioner with his primary areas of practice including general civil litigation, with particular emphasis on employment law, family law and contractual disputes. Neil also works on corporate and commercial matters on an almost daily basis, drafting all types of commercial agreements, advising international and local clients on different transactions and frequently preparing legal opinions on corporate and other matters.

Neil also represents criminal defendants privately and on legal aid in all types of criminal cases and is on the legal aid and legal assistance panels. Neil oversees consumer matters, debt collection and other files, such as data protection litigation and gaming licence applications and frequently appears in the Small Claims Court, the Magistrates' Court, the Supreme Court (in its original and appellate jurisdiction) and before the Industrial Tribunal. Whereas Neil sees court work as his main strength, he is known by his clients to relentlessly and successfully pursue highly advantageous out of court settlements when these are in their best interests.

Neil was made a partner of the firm on 1 July 2011. On Friday 9 December 2011 Neil was elected to the Gibraltar Parliament and appointed Government Minister responsible for Tourism, Public Transport, Commercial Affairs and the Port. Verralls is delighted to be able to draw on Neil’s legal expertise and experience on an advisory basis as a consultant to the firm.
